1. Updated National Mandatory Standards for Protective Garments Take Effect in 2026

China's State Administration for Market Regulation released 46 mandatory national standards for personal protective equipment (PPE) at the end of 2025, inc    luding 14 standards specially targeting protective workwear. They cover anti-static, flame-retardant, chemical-resistant, low-temperature and microwave-proof safety clothing, with staged enforcement starting July 2026 and a 12-month transition period.

Enterprises are required to assign functional workwear matching different job positions. Substandard products are banned from circulation. Emergency management authorities have ramped up random inspections on construction, chemical and new energy factories. Companies using uncertified protective clothing face fines up to 200,000 RMB. Meanwhile, the GB 39800 series PPE Allocation Specifications came into force on July 1, detailing service life and wash resistance requirements for flame-retardant and anti-static uniforms across construction, electric power and photovoltaic industries.

2. Highlighted Workwear Exhibits at the 110th CIOSH Fair

Hosted in Shanghai in April, the 110th China International Occupational Safety & Health Goods Expo focused on tech-driven, comfortable protective gear. Work protective clothing stood out as a core exhibition sector:

  • Domestic anti-static uniforms for photovoltaic manufacturing reach an 82% localization rate, breaking foreign fabric monopolies.

  • Mass-produced graphene temperature-regulating vests and cooling quick-dry overalls serve high-temperature smelting and cold-chain operations.

  • Smart high-visibility safety uniforms with wearable sensors can send early warnings for heatstroke and static risks.

Orders for multi-functional special protective clothing rose 15% year-on-year, with sharp growth in overseas export inquiries.

3. New Materials & Innovative Functional Workwear Mass Production

  • Chinese textile colleges developed air-channel cooling safety vests for outdoor construction workers. The gear keeps wearers at a comfortable temperature even under 40°C working conditions, and mass production cooperation with domestic manufacturers is underway.

  • Lightweight aramid composite flame-resistant fabrics have replaced traditional heavy canvas. New safety suits cut weight by 40% while boosting tear resistance and wash durability, widely adopted in coal mining, fire rescue and power plants.

4. Booming Domestic Market & Industrial Cluster Upgrading

China’s domestic work protective clothing market exceeded 80 billion RMB in 2025 with an annual growth rate of 12%. Demand for ordinary uniforms remains stable, while special protective garments (flame-retardant, anti-static, dust-free) grow over 15% annually. Customized position-specific functional workwear has become the mainstream procurement choice for factories.

Gaomi in Shandong Province, China’s key PPE manufacturing hub, has partnered with universities to develop high-performance protective fibers. Local manufacturers now secure large overseas orders for arc-flash and flame-resistant suits, shifting from low-cost basic uniforms to high-end functional safety apparel exported to Europe and Southeast Asia.

5. Surging Demand Driven by New Energy Industry

Lithium battery and photovoltaic workshops create skyrocketing demand for full-body anti-static coveralls. The whole industry has tightened fabric resistance standards, and domestic suppliers have expanded production of conductive fibers and dust-free protective clothing assembly lines.

6. National Summer Inspection Campaign for Construction PPE

Nationwide special inspections of labor protection supplies are carried out every summer. Authorities penalize construction sites using thin, low-quality high-visibility uniforms or uncertified flame-retardant workwear. Outdoor employers are ordered to supply breathable, quick-dry high-visibility safety garments to reduce heatstroke and workplace injuries.
